Be Media Smart: Measuring what matters – Oct 24, 2pm to 3.30pm

This event, jointly hosted by Making Sense of Media and Media Literacy Ireland and supported by Ofcom and Coimisiún na Meán, will explore the process, practicalities and potential of evaluating media literacy initiatives. Speakers include Dr. Vicky O’Rourke, Senior Lecturer, Atlantic Technological University and Dr. Jim Barratt, freelance research and evaluation consultant.

Participants will get an overview of the recently launched Making Sense of Media Evaluation Toolkit and tips on how best to use it. In addition, media literacy practitioners with first-hand experiences of evaluating their initiatives will share the value they got from going through the process and more importantly, talk about the lessons they learned. Open to everyone.

Be Media Smart: Media and Information Literacy in Digital Spaces – Oct 25, 6 to 7pm

This webinar, jointly organised by EDMO Ireland and Media Literacy Ireland and hosted by Dr. Ricardo Castellini Da Silva will explore the challenges and opportunities associated with navigating the complex digital environment, discussing the knowledge and skills necessary to critically understand, analyse, and engage with content in the digital media landscape. Be Media Smart: How to tackle the disinformation problem  – Oct 26, 6 to 7pm

This webinar, jointly organised by EDMO Ireland and Media Literacy Ireland and hosted by Dr. Ricardo Castellini Da Silva will tackle the wicked problem that many people in the media and information literacy community are talking about – Disinformation. This webinar will discuss the complexities of disinformation, offering participants an insight into its mechanics, implications, and effective ways to tackle it.  Open to everyone.

BE MEDIA SMART: THE WORK OF FACT-CHECKERS

The webinar will be open to the general public and will provide insights into the work that fact-checkers do, and how they do it. Registration will open soon.

Later in mid-November, MLI will host a special webinar for post-primary teachers, exploring new Digital Media Literacy Short Course. This webinar will be ideal for teachers currently delivering the course or interested in doing so and will provide insights and practical advice on delivering this important course.

Towards the end of November, the annual MLI conference will take place and will also focus on the Be Media Smart theme.
